

As a soloist, Joy has been nominated for the Top 10 Artist Bonsang (Main Prize) at the 2020 Melon Music Awards, and for the Artist of the Year Daesang (Grand Prize) at the 2020 Genie Music Awards. Joy's solo OST has received nominations for the Song of the Year Daesang (Grand Prize) and Best OST Award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, and Best OST at the 30th Seoul Music Awards. The song reached number one on multiple charts, number five on Billboard Korea's K-Pop Hot 100 Chart, and has surpassed 460 Million Digital Index Points on Gaon. In March 2020, Joy released an OST "Introduce Me A Good Person" for the tvN drama Hospital Playlist. In 2020, Joy became a main cast member of the new variety show Handsome Tigers and went on to win the Best Female Variety Idol at the Brand Customer Loyalty Awards. In 2019, Joy became the main host alongside Jang Yoon-ju of Asia's most popular beauty program Get It Beauty. Joy has hosted various television programs, most notably Sugarman 2 in 2018 with Yoo Jae-suk, You Hee-yeol, and Park Na-rae, and Pajama Friends with Song Ji-hyo and Jang Yoon-ju. In 2018, Joy acted in her second lead role as Eun Tae-hee in the 2018 K-drama, Tempted, where she was nominated for Best Actress and Rookie of the Year at the MBC Drama Awards. Joy also released 6 OSTs for the music-based drama.
RED VELVET DEBUT TV
In 2017, Joy made her acting career debut portraying the female lead Yoon So-Rim in the K-drama, The Liar and His Lover, and went on to win the Newcomer Award at the OSEN Cable TV Awards. The song debuted in the Top 10 of MelOn and achieved an overall ranking of #2 on the Instiz iChart. In November 2016, Joy collaborated with Lim Seul-ong in a duet titled "Always In My Heart". In 2016, Joy and Yook Sungjae released a duet entitled 어린애 (Young Love) for the program and received official songwriting credit from KOMCA for contributing to its lyrical composition. In 2015, Joy joined the program We Got Married and went on to win the New Star Award and Best Couple Award at the MBC Entertainment Awards.

On August 1, 2014, Joy debuted as a member of the South Korean girl group Red Velvet after releasing the digital single "Happiness". She trained under the agency for two years, before beginning her career under the stage name, Joy. Joy auditioned and was cast by SM Entertainment at the SM Global Audition in Seoul in 2012. In 2015, she graduated from School of Performing Arts Seoul.

During grade school, she performed "Flying Duck", an original song by the K-rock band, Cherry Filter, which began her aspiration to become a singer.

In her childhood, Joy was interested in Modern Trot music. Her family consists of her parents and two younger sisters, Park Ji-yeong and Min-ji. Joy was born as Park Soo-young in Jeju Island, South Korea and grew up in Dobong District, Seoul.
